VPI - Traveler Turntable

VPI Traveler Table

The Traveler Turntable was one of the most exciting and personal turntables created by VPI industries.  After the death of previous owner and founder Sheila Weisfeld, surviving son Mat Weisfeld wanted to create a turntable designed to reach a more entry level audience while keeping Sheila’s memory alive.  The table was targeted to having the same ideas and values shared by Sheila.  The Traveler was to be affordable, easy to use, and a unit that provided both quality and enjoyable music.  This was the first joined projected between Mat and his father Harry Weisfeld, Sheila’s husband and co owner/founder.  In fact, one of the first designs for the Traveler was a very rough sketch by Mat on the back of an airplane bag on the way home from CES 2012.  Presenting it to Harry, the initial design was both laughable and inspirational (Mat was no engineer but he did the best he could!)  This promoted serious designing and engineering to creating the Traveler which started in January 2012 and led to the first release of the Traveler at the New York Audio Show in April 2012.

The name of the table came from Mom’s love for traveling.  When diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer the initial doctor, who needed lessons on bedside manors, told Sheila she wouldn’t live for more than 3 weeks.  Sheila kept her spirit’s up (found a new doctor) and continued running VPI for another 6 months!  During that time, against doctor’s orders, she traveled to Australia and Texas!  Pictured below is the industry known picture of Sheila returning home from Texas looking healthier than Mat.

The picture and the cowgirl hat said it all; the Traveler was the perfect name for this memorial turntable.    A portion of all Travelers sold go towards the fight against Pancreatic Cancer and to support the Girl Scouts of America.  As well as a scholarship to help support young individuals pursuing business with Sheila’s strength who won’t take no for an answer!
