I've been dreaming of a diving trip to the Maldives for years, and now I’m finally planning one for next summer! I know the Maldives is famous for its incredible marine life, but I want to make sure I choose the right resort near the best dive sites. I’m particularly interested in places with vibrant coral reefs, manta rays, and maybe even some sharks. Does anyone have personal recommendations? Are there specific atolls or islands that are better for snorkeling and diving than others? I’d love to hear some firsthand experiences!

That sounds like an amazing trip, Dave! I visited the Maldives last year and stayed at an adults-only resort in the South Ari Atoll, which was absolutely perfect for diving. South Ari is one of the best places to see whale sharks year-round, and the dive sites around there are just breathtaking. I did a few dives at Maaya Thila, where I saw dozens of reef sharks, and the night dive there was unreal—sharks circling in the darkness while the bioluminescence made the water glow!
If you're into manta rays, you might want to check out Baa Atoll, especially Hanifaru Bay. It’s a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and during the right season, you can see dozens of mantas feeding in the plankton-rich waters. The currents can be strong, but the experience is worth it. Another great spot is Fotteyo Kandu in Vaavu Atoll—it’s a channel dive with incredible caves and overhangs, plus plenty of pelagic fish.
I stayed at one of the best adults-only hotels Maldives has to offer, and it had direct access to a fantastic house reef for snorkeling. Some of these hotels have their own dive centers, making it super easy to arrange excursions to the best sites.
